University of Nevada Las Vegas Student-Athlete Academic Services Staff Directory
Jeffery.Higgins@unlv.edu, (702) 895-0781 Jeff Higgins joined UNLV as the Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services in February 2007. In that capacity he has general oversight of the five academic advisors and 20-plus tutors working as a part of UNLV's student-athlete academic services (SAAS) unit, which is responsible for ensuring the personal development and academic success of each of UNLV's 400 student-athletes and 17 teams. Since joining UNLV, Higgins has led the charge to rejuvenate UNLV's SAAS unit to ensure that all student-athletes at UNLV get the academic services they need in a timely and effective fashion. As part of that effort, Higgins has worked in conjunction with the leadership in UNLV's University College to develop the UNLV Rebound Initiative, a program dedicated to the personal success of academically at-risk student-athletes at UNLV. Higgins is also spearheading the effort to improve the technology available to UNLV's student-athletes by working to bring wireless Internet accessibility to the study-hall space in the Lied Athletic Complex Auditorium, and has increased the inventory of laptop computers available to student-athletes by 350%. In addition, in order to ensure that academic services are easily accessible to the members of UNLV's largest team, Higgins re-structured and increased the size of the football academic advising staff to provide UNLV's football program with access to more academic advisors than any other school in the Mountain West Conference. Before joining UNLV, Higgins spent time as a member of the NCAA's enforcement staff (2002-2007) and as a criminal defense attorney (1998-2002). A graduate of the University of Florida and Stetson University College of Law, Higgins and his wife, Kelley, are the parents of four children: Alexa (16), Austin (13), Nolan (10), and Delaney (1).
David.Jackson@unlv.edu, (702) 895-0658 David Jackson was named Associate Director of UNLV Student-Athlete Academic Services in May 2006. David's primary responsibility is to provide academic advisement and support services for the Men's Basketball and Baseball teams, while assisting Jeff Higgins with the administration of the academic support program. Jackson earned both of his degrees from Texas Tech University; a bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems in 2001, and a master's degree in Higher Education Administration in 2002. Before coming to UNLV, Jackson worked in the Texas Tech Athletic department for three years; serving as a student-assistant, a graduate assistant, and finally, a counseling specialist. Jackson joined the UNLV athletics staff in March 2003 and has moved through the ranks of Athletic Academic Advisor to Eligibility Coordinator, and now to Associate Director. He is a member of the National Academic Advisors Association for Athletics.
Jason.Linders@unlv.edu, (702) 895-5861 Jason Linders enters his first year as Assistant Director and his second year overall at UNLV in Student-Athlete Academic Services. Prior to joining Student-Athlete Academic Services, Jason was an assistant football coach in the collegiate ranks for the past eight years, most recently at Montana State University. Jason coordinates academic support for football, which placed 14 members on the Academic All-Mountain West Conference team, breaking the school record and ranking third among league teams last season. He also works with men's soccer, co-coordinates the CHAMPS/Life Skills program, and is the liaison for the Admissions and Registrar's offices. He helps oversee the football and men's soccer student-athletes in registration, academic eligibility, tutoring and on-campus issues. Jason graduated from Humboldt State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1998 and Master of Science in Kinesiology in 2001. A native of Santa Ana, CA, Jason resides in North Las Vegas, Nev. He and his wife Annette have two daughters, Kayla (8) and Kalani (3).
Alan.Hott@unlv.edu, (702) 895-0655 Alan Hott began working as an Athletic Academic Advisor at UNLV after spending one year as an assistant counselor at The Ohio State University. Alan works with Football (defense), Women's Soccer, Women's Swimming & Diving, and Men's & Women's Tennis. He also assists in coordinating the tutoring and study hall programs. Alan is a native of central Illinois and played tennis at Millikin University (Division III) for three seasons. He earned his master's degree in Sport Management from Northern Illinois University in 2006. Alan is a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and also enjoys biking, running, and spending time with his girlfriend Ashlee.
Lisa.Levine@unlv.edu, (702) 895-5499 Lisa Levine is the advisor for Football (offense), Women's Basketball and Women's Golf. She is the co-coordinator for the CHAMPS/Life Skills program, community service activities, and the Academic Awards Luncheon. She also coordinates career development and graduate studies preparation with the Director. Prior to joining UNLV, Lisa was an Assistant Academic Counselor for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and worked in the Admissions Office at The University of Texas. A native of Houston, Lisa earned her Master of Education in Sport Management and her Bachelor of Science in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics, serving on the Life Skills Committee.
Kimberly.Underwood@unlv.edu, (702) 895-0659 Kim joins Student Athlete Support Services after spending a year in the UNLV College of Education Advising Center as an Academic Advisor. Prior to joining UNLV, she spent some time in Ohio where she completed her Master of Science in College Student Personnel in May 2006 at Miami University. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Colorado State University in 2003. Kim coordinates academic support for the Men's Swimming & Diving, Softball, Track & Field/Cross Country and Volleyball teams. She also co-coordinates the CHAMPS/Life Skills program, community service activities, and the Academic Awards Luncheon. In her free time, Kim enjoys coaching a junior club volleyball team and spending time outdoors. Growing up in Colorado, she appreciates the dry climate in Las Vegas, but she is still adjusting to the "warm" summer months. Any pointers are greatly appreciated.
