LAS VEGAS -

UNLV junior wide receiver Ryan Wolfe earned preseason All-Mountain West Conference honors and the Rebels were picked to finish ninth, the league announced Monday morning at the 2008 MWC Media Days being held at the Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa.

The selection marks the second consecutive year that Wolfe has landed on the team, which was voted on by members of the league's media.

Wolfe, a unanimous 2008 preseason first team selection by national preview magazines, hauled in a career-high 66 receptions for 784 yards and two touchdowns last season as a sophomore. That followed a sensational rookie season in which the native of Santa Clarita, Calif., was named the 2006 MWC Freshman of the Year after turning in the best rookie season by a wide receiver in school and league history. Wolfe caught 55 balls for 911 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman.

Two-time defending Mountain West Conference football champion BYU was predicted to capture its third consecutive title in 2008, capturing 29 first-place votes and 299 points overall. Utah was tabbed to finish second, as the Utes received the remaining five first-place votes and 274 points overall. TCU (239) was next, followed by New Mexico (197), Wyoming (156), Air Force (141), San Diego State (92), Colorado State (73) and UNLV (59).

BYU quarterback Max Hall was selected as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while TCU's Jason Phillips was named preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Utah kicker/punter Louie Sakoda earned preseason Special Teams Player of the Year honors for the second straight year and Braylon Broughton of TCU was named preseason Freshman of the Year.

UNLV begins training camp on Aug. 4 at Rebel Park and then opens the 2008 season at Sam Boyd Stadium against visiting Utah State on Aug. 30 at 7:00 p.m. (PDT). For ticket information call (702) 739-FANS or go to www.unlvrebels.com.
