Olson Tied For Lead At NIT

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 15 UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 2-under-par 286 on Sunday at the National Invitational Tournament played at Omni Tucson National Golf Club (par 72, 7,033 yards) and is tied for second place, 11 shots back of tournament-leading TCU. Rebel sophomore Eddie Olson is one of four golfers to shoot 4-under 68 and is tied for first individually.

TCU shot an opening-round 13-under 275 to lead the field. New Mexico is tied with UNLV for second, and is followed by Kent State in fourth at 1-under and Arizona State is fifth at 2-over. Host Arizona is eighth at 6-over.

TCU's Robby Ormand and Jordan Woolf are both tied with Olson for first, as is New Mexico's Steve Saunders. Two golfers are one shot back of the bunch at 3-under, tied for fifth.

Other UNLV players first round scores and places: senior C.J. Gatto (72, T17th), sophomore Brett Kanda (72, T17th), freshman Ji Moon (74, T34th) and junior Seung-Su Han (77, T63rd). Senior Jarred Texter, who is competing as an individual, shot a first-round 80 and is tied for 72nd.

The tournament will continue with 18 holes on Monday and conclude on Tuesday with a final-round of 18 holes. Rounds are expected to begin at 8 a.m. each day.
