Rebels Lead At MWC Championship

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 15 UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 3-under 281 to take the lead at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship on Thursday, which is being played at the Catalina Course at Tucson National (par 71, 7,136 yards).

The Rebels hold a two-shot lead over TCU, which was the only other team to shoot under par. The Horned Frogs shot a first-round 1-under 283. BYU is third at 2-over, while Utah and Colorado State are both tied for fourth at 4-over.

Individually, San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg leads the field by two shots at 4-under 67. UNLV's Seung-Su Han and Brett Kanda are both tied for second at 2-under 69, while Eddie Olson is the other Rebel player in the top five after a 1-under 70. Olson is in a three-way tie for fourth place.

Matt Kinsinger and Ji Moon are both tied for 22nd after scores of 2-over 73 to round out the Rebel individual scores.

Play at the 54-hole tournament will continue on Friday with 18 holes and conclude on Saturday. Play begins each day at 7 a.m. PDT. Live stats for the MWC Championship are available through a link on UNLVRebels.com.
