The UNLV men's golf team, ranked 18th in the country in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, is tied for first place following the second round of play at the 8th Annual Turtle Bay Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Turtle Bay Resort Golf Course in Kahuku, Hawaii.
The Rebels shot a second-round 287 (-1) for a 54-hole total of 568 (-8) and are tied with San Diego State for a share of the lead over a field of 19 teams. Texas (570, -6) is third, Ohio State (571, -5) is fourth and New Mexico and UC Irvine are tied for fifth at 1-under.
Hawaii's Thomas Kua and San Diego State's Johan Carlsson are both tied for the individual lead at 7-under 137. UNLV junior Eddie Olson is in a five-way tie for seventh at 4-under 140, three shots back.
Other Rebel scores: junior Brett Kanda is tied for 12th with a 3-under 141 after shooting a second-round 69 (-3), freshman Derek Ernst is tied for 15th at 2-under 142, freshman Colby Smith is tied for 37th at 2-over 146, sophomore Ji Moon, who is competing as an individual, and sophomore Jeremiah Wooding are both tied for 73rd at 7-over 151.
Tuesday's second round was played on the Palmer Course (par 72, 7,218 yards), while Wednesday's final round will be played on the George Fazio Course (par 72, 6,535 yards).
