LAS VEGAS -
The UNLV men's golf team has signed J.C. Deacon of Unionville, ONT, Canada, to a national letter of intent, head coach Dwaine Knight announced Monday.
A standout golfer at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton, Fla., Deacon is ranked 63rd in the latest Golfweek U.S. Boys amateur golf rankings. He is a member of the Canadian Junior National team that qualified to play in the World Junior Championships in Tokyo next summer.
"J.C. is a good addition to the team," Knight said. "He's a big kid, a long hitter and an all-around great athlete. We see him being able to do some big things for us over his career."
Deacon becomes the second Canadian player to sign with the Rebels in the last two years. Calvin Kupeyan, a native of nearby Tecumseh, ONT, and also a Leadbetter Academy graduate, is a sophomore on the UNLV squad this season.
Deacon joins Ryan Moore, who signed with UNLV during the early signing period last fall, to complete the Rebels' 2001 recruiting class.
