Six Rebels Earn Academic Honors
Six members of the UNLV men's soccer team were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Academic All-Conference Team, it was announced on Tuesday. [ + ] Forward Daniel Cruz of ¬UNLV was named to the College Soccer News 2007 All-Freshman Second Team, it was announced this week. Cruz, the 2007 MPSF Newcomer of the Year and a All-MPSF First Team selection, is the first Rebel to ever earn national freshman honors. [ + ] The UNLV men's soccer team took a big step toward getting back on the national soccer scene with the 2007 season. Mario Sanchez, in his second year as the Rebels' head coach and the 2007 MPSF Co-coach of the Year, Mario Sanchez, brought in 12 new players to the program (6 transfers, 5 freshmen, and 1 walk-on). The chemistry of the team had clearly changed and a new competitive attitude was emerging. [ + ] The UNLV men's soccer staff presents their 2008 Prospect Camp, which will be held from Feb. 9-10, 2008, on the UNLV campus. The camp will be held for High School and Junior College Students. [ + ] Forward Daniel Cruz of ¬UNLV was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Soccer Newcomer of the Year while second-year head coach Mario Sanchez was selected as the Co-Coach of the Year, the league announced on Monday. The MPSF also announced its all-conference teams, and four Rebels were selected, including two on the first team. [ + ] Air Force scored the lone goal of the game less then seven minutes into contest to hand the UNLV men's soccer team a 1-0 loss in the final game of the regular season for both teams on Sunday afternoon. The loss gave the Rebels a final record of 7-10-2, their best since a 12-8 mark in 2002, and 3-7 in the MPSF. The Falcons improved to 5-12-1, 3-7 in league play. [ + ] |
