Rebels Handed First MWC Loss

Oct. 28, 2007

Box Score

LARAMIE, Wyo. - UNLV's hopes for an undefeated conference record were shot down on Sunday afternoon, as the Wyoming Cowgirls posted a 1-0 victory over the Rebels in a Mountain West Conference women's soccer contest. The loss broke a seven-game unbeated streak for UNLV, but it remains in first place in the league at 4-1-1, 9-4-5 overall, while Wyoming improved to 8-9, 3-3 in MWC play.

The Rebels now hold a one-point lead in the MWC standings, as they have 13 points, while BYU (4-2 overall) has 12 for second place. That sets up a showdown for the regular season title on Friday, as UNLV will host the Cougars in a 7 pm matchup on the Rebels' Senior Night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Against the Cowgirls, UNLV took a total of 14 shots for the day, same as the host Wyoming squad, but couldn't find the back of the net. Wyoming goalkeeper Ashley Sheppard came up with four saves to earn the shutout. Alicia Lugo was just as strong in the net, making eight saves, but allowed the one goal of the day when Tamika Wilson dribbled through the UNLV defense and scored from the left side in the 52nd minute.
